Each week we’re publishing some questions to think about based on the Sunday messages & Bible readings.
These can be used in home groups, with others or on your own, and are designed to help you engage in the passage and themes in more depth and reflect on how God might be speaking to you through them.

Icebreaker
When in your life have you been most content? When have you been least content? Why do you think that was?
Opening Prayer
Lord Jesus you left the splendour of heaven to live amongst us taking the very nature of a servant.
Thank you that you came to us and thank you that you showed us what it means to truly live out the truth of your Gospel.
Teach us now as we read your word and talk together.
Show us how to live more like you.
For Jesus’ sake we pray. Amen.
Reading & Questions
Read Luke 12:13-40
- Jesus says to the man in the crowd, ‘life does not consist in an abundance of possessions’. (v14) Why are possessions and wealth so beguiling to us in the west today?
- It’s interesting that the famous ‘do not worry’ passage sits directly after this exchange about inheritance and the parable that Jesus told of the Rich Fool. What could be the significance of this ordering of Jesus’ teaching?
- In the parable the man had an ‘abundant harvest’. On Sunday we gave thanks for our harvest and for all of God’s provision. What do we do with our ‘abundance’ and are there any ways that Jesus would have us live differently, especially when it comes to caring for creation?
- What does it mean to be ‘rich towards God’ (v21)?
- Are we ‘dressed and ready for service’ waiting for Jesus to come back? (v35) What does that look like for you? To what extent is it spiritual and to what extent is it practical/ethical? (v31)
Praying Together
Pray for one another. Pray that God would meet our needs and the needs of those we love today. At the same however, let’s ask that more and more we would be people who seek God’s kingdom first, trusting that everything else will be added to us as well.
