Message

Colossians 3:18-4:1

'18 Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.

19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.

21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.

22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favour, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. 25 Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favouritism.

Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven.'

Free School Meals Statement & Prayer

Free School Meals

Some of us have been disappointed this week by the government's refusal to think about providing free school meals during the holidays. This is an issue that affects a number of families, even in Budleigh. Please pray that the government would reconsider, and think about adding your voice to the discussion by writing to our MP, SImon Jupp. You may find the words and prayer above helpful.

We're delighted that several local businesses, including the Gingerbread House, Wesleys and Granny Gothards in Budleigh, have all said they will help by providing free meals to those who need them. In addition, the Budleigh Support group continues to provide longer term financial support to families who are struggling. Finally, the Food Larder is well stocked and running well. If you or anyone you know needs help please get in touch and we'll try and point you in the right direction.

The pieces don't make for easy reading, but are well worth engaging with. You can see them by clicking here.

BMS Prayers for the Week

Please join us this week as we pray for the nation of Afghanistan.

- Please pray for BMS worker Ruby* as she teaches Afghan women about the different vegetables it’s possible to grow in their mountainous region of Afghanistan. Please pray that they are encouraged by a good harvest to continue to plant a variety of vegetables.

- Our partner’s community development team in Afghanistan is finalising the selection of a new community to work in. Pray that they can build good relationships with people in the area.

- Praise God for the response to our 2018 Life’s First Cry appeal. Please continue to pray for the maternal health project featured in the appeal, that those who have received training will remember what they have learnt and be able to put these life-saving lessons into action when required.
