If you look at the images of Jesus produced at different times in different cultures, you will find a huge variety of expressions of you this man is – his character, his mission, his looks. Even outside the church, many of those who reject the idea of God still uphold a respect for the person of Jesus, seeing him as a great moral teacher, a political revolutionary, or a prophet.
As Christians, we go one step further, claiming that whilst Jesus may have been a great moral teacher or a revolutionary, he is also the son of God. As Paul says in Colossians, in him we see the fullness of God in bodily form (Col 2:9). As we enter into the season of Lent, we will be journeying with Jesus towards the cross, trying to understand more of his life, ministry and character and asking how we can become more like him.
