John Colwell

In October 2009 Rev’d Dr. John Colwell was inducted as Minister of Budleigh Salterton Baptist Church.

John married Rosie in 1973. They have two adult children and three grandchildren.

For fifteen years before coming to Budleigh Salterton John was a tutor at Spurgeon’s College in South London where he established the Master’s course in Applied Theology, served as Dean, and taught Christian Doctrine and Ethics. John continues to serve the College as Senior Research Fellow.

Previous to his time at Spurgeon’s College, John served as senior pastor at King’s Church, Catford (previously Catford Hill Baptist Church) and as Minister of Butt Lane Baptist Church, Maldon. John trained for Baptist Ministry at Spurgeon’s College and pursued research at King’s College, London.

John is a member of the Baptist Union Council and has served on its Ministry Executive and it Ministerial Recognition Committee. He is also involved in the work of the South West Baptist Association.

John is the author of several books and articles including:
